2023 Community Outreach Cookout

 

University Hospital EMS is holding the first annual EMS Community Cookout on Saturday May 20th, 2023 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM in Weequahic Park. The event is designed to increase public awareness of emergency medical services in an interactive and educational environment. Newark residents are invited to come meet the people who serve their community and enjoy an afternoon full of food, fun, music, games and more. The event is completely free of charge, and made possible with the support of University Hospital, the University Hospital Foundation, NJDEDA and the local restaurants donating meals, the Newark Police Department, and the Newark Fire Department.

 

  • Learn life-saving skills: Take free mini-lessons on CPR and bleeding control.
  • Get a mini-health screening: Check your vitals and speak one-on-one with a physician to ask any questions about your health or medications.
  • Touch-a-Truck and explore our apparatus, from ambulances to specialized rescue equipment.
  • Fill out a medical information card with one of our providers so you can be prepared should you ever experience an emergency.
  • Watch exciting demonstrations with our SIM Team.
  • Learn how the 911 System works and make mock 911 calls with our REMCS Dispatchers.
  • Speak to our Mobile Integrated Health team to get information about substance abuse & treatment.
  • Meet members of the University Hospital Bike Team, Rescue, JEMSTAR (Medevac), and REMCS.
  • Explore the capabilities of our Medevac division, JEMSTAR, with a helicopter landing (weather permitting).
  • Learn about possible career opportunities.
  • Enjoy games, giveaways, and delicious food from local restaurants courtesy of the University Hospital Foundation.

Appropriate for all ages, the event is free and open to the public. A rain date is planned for Sunday, May 21st in the event of severe weather. We hope to see you there!
